HOF_Larry_Daugherty_12Dr. Larry Daugherty retired in 2012 from Maranatha Academy after 18 years of service as superintendent. This culminated nearly 40 years of servant leadership in Christian education – in just two schools. Dr. Daugherty brought vision and passion to his educational ministry, uncompromising commitment to high-levelacademics, unwavering Christian faith, commitment to prayer that he developed as a young man and godly wisdom.

Even as a teenager, Dr. Daugherty had a strong inclination toward full-time Christian service. He loved sports, coaching and working with students. He attained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from San Jose State University and his doctorate of education from the University of San Francisco. He also proudly served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam for five years.

The first half of Dr. Daugherty’s career was spent at Fremont Christian School (FCS), in Fremont California. From 1973 to 1994, Larry held a number of leadership positions at FCS. His wife, Marilyn, was a teacher at the school. Under his guidance as superintendent, FCS grew from 100 students to more than 1100 in K – 12.

After more than 20 years at FCS, Dr. Daugherty’s second half of his career was continued at Maranatha Academy. At Maranatha he had the opportunity to broaden academics, relocate a second campus, begin a Christian preschool and solidify the school’s spiritual, organizational and financial foundations.

The Daughertys reside in Shawnee, Kansas, and have one son, three daughters, and three grandchildren.
